Supporting young stroke survivors and their families

We are committed to helping families rebuild their lives after stroke

Inspired by Steve’s story, we wish to support young stroke survivors and their families by providing grants for rehabilitation, equipment, respite and other support when needed most.

Steve Smith Foundation

Many of you will remember Steve as the funny vibrant person he was. A true friend and gentleman, a Guthlaxton pupil who went on to become an extremely popular member of staff at McDonaldโ€™s Wigston after suffering from a stroke.

Why we exist

When Steve suffered a stroke at just 37 years old, our lives changed forever.

We quickly discovered that recovery doesn’t end when you leave hospital.

For many families, that’s where the hardest part begins.

Steve’s story

Thanks to the generosity of our family, friends and colleagues, Steve was able to access private rehabilitation that transformed his recovery.

Without that support, his journey would have been very different. Not every family has that opportunity.

We recognize the role architecture plays in shaping a sustainable future.

NHS

Stroke rehabilitation through the NHS is limited.

The first year

Yet the first year after stroke is often the most important for recovery.

Going private

Private physiotherapy, speech therapy and specialist support can change livesโ€ฆ
